Maintaining the integrity of asphalt pavement should involve drainage. Catch basins and storm drains are vital in managing water runoff for driveways, parking lots, roads, and more.
When you see standing water on your asphalt, who will you call? Bob Muldoon Paving, serving Haverhill, MA, and beyond, specializes in catch basin installation and repair. As a second-generation paving company, we bring over 50 years of expertise to every project.
Catch Basin and Storm Drain Maintenance: Vital for Pavement Health
Your drain system is strategically designed to divert water from your paved surfaces. The slope, gutters, curbs, and channels guide runoff across the property and into the public sewer system. However, the structural integrity of concrete drainage systems can diminish over time.
At Bob Muldoon Paving, we step in to reconstruct or repair your drains to prevent flooding across your parking lot.
What’s the difference between a catch basin and a storm drain?
Understanding the distinctions between grates, basins, drains, and sewers is crucial for effective pavement management. While these terms are often used interchangeably, a catch basin acts as a receptacle, capturing water runoff from structures like parking lots and roadways. The water then flows through the storm drain into the storm sewer, redirecting it away from the immediate area.
Drainage Installation & Replacement Services
When setting up new drains on commercial properties, we start by checking existing structures like grates and swales. If there are low spots causing water pooling, we dig them out, putting in a sturdy precast concrete catch basin. A cast-iron frame and lid are added at the right height for good drainage. Crushed aggregate fills the dug area, reinforced with concrete for strength.
For replacements, we study utility locations and carefully excavate or saw-cut perimeters. The old structure is removed, and a new precast one is installed. The cast iron frame and lid are put back in place for proper drainage. Crushed aggregate is used for backfilling, leveled and compacted. Finally, we add hot asphalt mix to match the existing grade.
